There are lots of exciting things happening at A Hero’s Home™, including a brand new home for our blog! Check out the new site at www.aheroshome.com!

Looking forward to seeing you there!!

Do we look into Future with hope & optimism? Or is there a subtle dread of what may happen next? Not just in world as whole– but in our individual lives — Are we being robbed of the joy of present because of a fear of tomorrow? Do worries and anxieties drain our strength and steal our peace?

I’m talking about a fear that carries with it an unhealthy element of torment –that makes life more stressful than it ought to be. There is a healthy, rational kind of fear that causes us to jump out of the way of a speeding truck and stay alive. But there are many fears that have a terribly negative influence on our quality of life and upon our effectiveness in life.

“…God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Notice 3 influences of the Holy Spirit in II Tim. 1:7 that counteract fear.

In Matthew 6 Jesus told us to not live in a state of worry – why? Because it does no good. “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” (verse 27) But also because you are valuable to God and He cares for you. Verse 26 “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”

The opposite of fear is faith. Life is to be approached from a faith stance not a fear stance. Corrie Ten Boon used this FAITH acronym to express that truth:

This is for the young women that are waking up at 6
a.m. every morning, laying out clothes and packing
three lunches for those small precious children that
they have been left alone to care for.

This is for the pregnant Army wife wondering if her
husband will make it home in time to watch their
miracle happen.

This is for the childless Army wife, living in a town
or on a base alone where she is a complete stranger to
her surroundings.

This is for the women that feel like a third leg when
they go out with their friends and their husbands.

This is for the Army wife that canceled all her plans
to wait by the phone, and even though the phone broke
up and cut off every time you spoke to him, you waited
anyway.

This is a pledge to the women that cry themselves to
sleep in an empty bed.

This is to recognize the woman that felt like she was
dying inside when he said he had to go, but smiled for
him anyway.

This is for those of you that are faithfully in that
long line at the post office once a month, handling 2
large boxes and 2 small children like a pro.

This is for that woman that decided to remodel the
house to pass time, and then realized that she had no
idea what she was doing and sighed and wished she had
a little help.

This is for all the lonely nights, all the one-person
dinners, and all of the wandering thoughts because you
haven’t heard from him in days.

This is for the sad Army wives, the angry Army wives,
and the strong Army wives.
A toast to you for falling apart, and putting
yourselves back together. Because a pay check isn’t
enough, a body pillow in your bed is no consolation,
and a web cam can never compare.

This is for all of you no matter how easy or hard this
was for you. Our soldiers are brave, they are heroes,
but so are we. So the next time someone tells you that
they would never marry an Army guy, don’t bother
explaining to them that you can’t control who you
fall in love with. Just think of this and nod your
head, know that you are the stronger woman. Hold your
heads up high, hang that flag in your front yard,
stick 100 magnets on your car, and then give yourself
a pat on the back.

Be proud to be the woman that you are, be proud to be
an Army wife.

“Although we can talk about the past, what’s really important is the future. And when we talk about the future, there’s nothing more important than our children. They’re literally and figuratively our future, the future of our families, the future of this great nation.”

Gov. Nixon orders flags to half-staff in honor of fallen soldier from Jasper County
Wednesday, June 29, 2011
Nevada Daily Mail
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered that the U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings in all 114 counties and the city of St. Louis be flown at half-staff on June 30 to honor the bravery and sacrifice of Staff Sergeant Edward F. Dixon III. Staff Sergeant Dixon, age 37, of Joplin, was a soldier in the United States Army serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
Dixon was killed on June 18 while serving his country in Uruzgan Province.

In addition, Nixon has ordered that the U.S. and Missouri flags at all state buildings in Jasper County be flown at half-staff from July 5 to July 10.

“Staff Sergeant Dixon served our country with bravery and dedication as a soldier in the United States Army, and I ask all Missourians to remember his sacrifice when they see the lowered flags,” Nixon said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they mourn for him.”
